Review-Shadow Shields

About the company:
Ever try to achieve that Red Carpet Smoky Eye, only to end up looking more like a raccoon than a fox? Well, look no further! Shadow Shields are the answer to flawless eye makeup application every time!

Before makeup application, apply these disposable, self-adhesive shields under your eyes to catch falling pigment, eliminating that all too familiar ‘raccoon eye’ side effect experienced during eyeshadow application. When you’re done; remove, toss and voila — you’re left with clean, smudge-free under eyes!

Major time savers, these lightweight shields are a convenient alternative to the usual powder-under-the-eye trick. With Shadow Shields, messes will be a thing of the past!

What the Brand claims:

  • Protects under eye area from eye shadow fallout
  • Self Adhesive
  • Saves Time
  • Eliminates Mess
  • Hands Free

How To

Application Process

Step 1

Remove top corners of backing and apply shield below the eye.

Step 2

Apply eye makeup.

Step 3

When finished, gently remove shields and dispose.

Step 4

Say bye-bye to messy “raccoon eyes!”

Video Demo

Helpful Tips

  • Remove only top corners to apply. If more adhesion is needed, remove entire top strip.
  • Application of shield doesn’t have to be directly on lash line- it can be applied under the bulge of the eye or wherever most comfortable.
  • When applying shield, allow backing to crease-it will form a small lip, helping to catch the fallout!

My Experience:

Pigment shadows have always been a nightmare for me, not that I don't love them but because of their application. If you have the right brushes you can make a good deal out of them but never without having a dust residue left on your under eyes. I came across the idea of applying face powder and then dusting it off when finished but it never was my thing. So recently i was introduced to the concept of Shadow Shields, I sure was wowed by this usable invention. So I got myself a pack to try it out to see if it really works.

These shields are semi moon shaped made out of very soft porous material on the upper side and has different shaped stick-on portions at the back that you can easily remove suiting your need to stick on your under eye. They come with a How-to guide to guide you through the steps. It's ideal for everyday make-up, smoky eye, glitter and pigments, mascara application as well as quick touch ups.

Shadow Shields has made its name very soon and has already been featured in different magazines as very handy and mess proof time savers. So if you have any application issues get your self a pack from Shadow Shields and make your make-up application easier then ever. To know how this product is become useful for others browse through their Facebook page as well.  You get your self a pack of 30 RE-USABLE shields for just $9.99 and they ship worldwide for just $3.50.

Review & Swatches- Elizabeth Arden Mini Pallete

About the company:
A legendary innovator and a tireless entrepreneur, Miss Elizabeth Arden established the American beauty industry a century ago. Born Florence Nightingale Graham, she travelled from rural Canada to New York City, where she opened the first Red Door salon on Fifth Avenue in 1910.

Elizabeth Arden’s fundamental belief was that beauty should not be a veneer of makeup, but an intelligent cooperation between science and nature in order to develop a woman’s finest natural assets. She lived by her mantra, "To be beautiful and natural is the birthright of every woman."
Miss Arden created skin care products that benefited, not masked, the skin. She not only promoted her concept of Total Beauty, including diligent skincare, nutrition and fitness, but lived it prudently as she persistently sought to bring a scientific approach to skincare formulations.

What the Brand claims:

It was a free item received upon purchases of $500 and above and no Internet listings have been found.

My Experience:
This is how the pallete looks like from the inside, it consists of:
2 eye shadows: 'Tulie' & 'Smoke'
2 lip glosses: 'Pink Lemonade' & 'Radiant Mauve'
1 cheek color: 'Sugar Plum'
1 mirror attached to the case
2 brushes: 'mini blush brush' and 'double sided lip brush and eye shadow sponge applicator'

As I mentioned earlier I got this as a free gift with my other purchases from Elizabeth Arden. I have had this pallete for a while now and it comes where handy while on the go as I don't have to carry all these things separately they all come in one compact case, it is very light making it easier to carry. It locks down tightly to avoid any type of spills and can easily fit in your handbag. While using this you wouldn't need much of other makeup items to be carried separately.

Starting from the blush, it is a Sugar Plum shade it is a mixture of pinkish and brownish tones and suit me really well. It is kind of dry though but can always be used to do touch up using its mini blush brush.

The eye shadows do not show the exact shade as to what they look like when applied. The eye shadows are shimmery but are not very well pigmented specially the lighter shade which I assume is the Tulie, the other one still gives a better coverage and shows well.

Moving on to the glosses. I have never been a fan of palleted lip colors as I don't enjoy using a brush to apply them and using your fingers is just a mess. But never the less I do end up using these at times and I have to agree I love both the shades and they are very well pigmented, they are true to their colors  as well. But the quantity is very less, seems like I would be running out of them soon.

Here are how the blended swatches look like starting from blush on the left then the eye shadows in the middle and glosses on the right. And the Eye-shadows look sooo different when applied.

Overall, this product is very handy I use it very often while on the go, so I would definitely recommend it if you manage to get your hands on it!

Review- CoverGirl TRUcheeks Blush Trio

About the company:
COVERGIRL is an American cosmetics brand founded in 1960 in Maryland, by the Noxzema Chemical Company (later called Noxell) and acquired by Procter & Gamble in 1989. The Noxell Company advertised this cosmetics line by allowing "cover girls", fashion models who appear on the front cover of women's magazines, to wear its products. COVERGIRL makes up for lack of direct individual customer service by providing a wide variety of cosmetics available at reasonable prices.

What the brand claims:
Three blushes in one compact, TruCheeks Blush perfectly matches your skin tone for a natural, no makeup look. TruCheeks is specially designed to work with TRUblend foundation, pressed powder and concealer; select your blush, 1 - 6, then look for the corresponding foundation, concealer and powder!; 3 complimentary skin-flushed shades; shade numbering system that helps you coordinate your make-up flawlessly; Lightweight, blendable; Dermatalogically tested.

My Experience:
I have this trio in shades number 2. As shown above it comes with 3 different colors of blushers. Two in smaller portions and one is a bigger one. All the ingredients, production and expiry details are clearly listed on the back of the compact case:

It comes in a plastic case with a clear flip lid making the colors visible from outside which i guess helps while picking up things from your stash while in hurry. Also not to forget it comes with a mini blush brush with very soft and fluffy bristles making it just perfect for blush application. Even though it does not come with a mirror I love the fact that i don't need to carry a separate brush with this.

The one I got has a very dark deep brown shade on the left, in the middle its a pinky peachy shade and on the right its a creamish shade. All these blushes have shimmer in them and they are powdery blushes. The best thing i love about all these three blushes is that you can work on the darkness of these shades and can built them up while applying. At times I end up using all three of them together where I use the brown shade as a blush, then the pink one to shape up the features of my face specially nose and jaw line and then the creamy shade which is the lightest to highlight my brow bones and cheek bones.

Overall, I love this product, its good value for money and is very handy to use. It's a must have!! They are very well pigmented and would never give a chalky look. It retails at about $5.50 which is very economical compared to buying three blushes separately and adding a brush to it.

Review-ULTA Extreme Wear: Cream to Powder eye color

ULTA Extreme Wear: Cream to Powder eye colour- The name says it all!

About the Company:
Ulta was founded in 1990 as a discount beauty retailer at a time when prestige, mass and salon products were sold through distinct channels—department stores for prestige products, drug stores and mass merchandisers for mass products, and salons and authorized retail outlets for professional hair care products. After extensive research, Ulta recognized an opportunity to better satisfy how a woman wanted to shop for beauty products, which led to what they believe to be their unique combination of beauty superstore and speciality store attributes. They believe their strategy provides them with the competitive advantages that has contributed to their strong financial performance.
Today, ULTA is the largest beauty retailer that provides one-stop shopping for prestige, mass and salon products and salon services in the United States. They focus on providing affordable indulgence to their customers by combining the product breadth, value and convenience of a beauty superstore with the distinctive environment and experience of a speciality retailer.

What the brand claims:
ULTA Cream Eye Shadow and Eye Liner offers the benefit of two products in one small portable package. The creamy formula goes on smoothly and evenly, while the sponge applicator makes it easy to shade the entire lid as a shadow or create a fine line as a liner.

My experience:

I got this in shade 15 i.e: 'Champagne'. It comes in a thin tall container widening at both ends. It comes with a slanted puffy long wand which unfortunately picks up very little shadow from the container making applying it difficult as you have to overlay it several times which I personally don't like. It hasn't been long since I have had this product and it seems like drying and cracking inside the container even though its a cream based formula. But as much of what I manage to get out to use, it gives a really nice shimmery goldish shade and indeed is very very long lasting but you need to be really quick while applying it as at times it even dries on the wand. Oh and it claims to be used as a liner as well, which I totally failed at.

Honestly i'll say please!!! don't buy this product and waste your money. There are much better cream to powder shadows available. I even had thoughts to throw it away at times. I used to go 'gaga' over ULTA products but after trying this out all it's charm vanished as it was a total disappointment! Only if they decide to improve it's formulation and packaging it might earn some votes. It retails at about $8 and can be found on ULTA website. If you already own something like this try to make the most out of it, as I also use mine at times.

Hits:

Misses:

Clumpsy application

Review-Revlon EyeGlide Shimmer Shadow

Today I'm in with a product that is as good as to be used everyday. It is the Revlon EyeGlide Shimmer Shadow.

About the company:
Revlon was founded in 1932, by Charles Revson and his brother Joseph, along with a chemist, Charles Lachman, who contributed the "L" in the REVLON name. Starting with a single product - a nail enamel unlike any before it - the three founders pooled their meager resources and developed a unique manufacturing process. Today Revlon is a global color cosmetics, hair color, beauty tools, fragrances, skincare, anti-perspirant / deodorants and beauty care products company whose vision is Glamour, Excitement and Innovation through High-quality Products at Affordable Prices. Revlon® is one of the strongest consumer brand franchises in the world. Revlon’s global brand portfolio includes Revlon® color cosmetics, Almay® color cosmetics, Revlon Colorsilk® hair color, Revlon® beauty tools, Charlie® fragrances, Mitchum® anti-perspirant / deodorants, and Ultima II® and Gatineau® skincare and its products are sold in over 100 countries across six continents.

What the brand claims:
Twist Up Color, Glide On Effortlessly, Shimmer All Day Twist: Easy to apply- even on the go. Glide: Smooth on a refreshing glide of color, blend shadow with cushiony-soft tip. Shimmer: An eyeful of creamy shades that glisten all day and resist creasing. With Cushiony-Soft Tip Ophthalmologist tested. Suitable for contact lens wearers.

My experience:

I got myself this product in shade 15: champagne. It is more like a pen with porous opening. You twist the bottom part keeping the upper one still or vice versa and small goblets of color pop up for you to glide on.

On the website and mostly in the pictures it looks more of a brown tone but it is a goldenish shimmery glide that mattifies when applied and does not creases at all. you can wear it the whole day and it stays true to its colour for up to 8-10 hours without a base or primer. The only thing you need to take care of that when new you have to twist it again n again for I don't know how many times until you get the product out, once its up its all smooth and hassle free. Here is a blended swatch:

Overall, I love this product and is a must re buy and i would love to try in out in all other shades. They really are wearable for everyday use specially when goldish shadows are back in fashion! this glides retail at $5 and are available at almost all stockists of REVLON globally.

Hits:
Does not creases
Affordable
Very natural colour
Blends out easily
Silky texture but matte

Honestly? None!

Review-Foschini Pink Panther Gloss(Limited Edition)

Hello to all! Look what I found in my stash today? A Pink Panther gloss. Read on to know more about it.

About the Company:With over 200 stores located in prime shopping centres and CBDs in Southern Africa, Foschini is the top-to-toe destination for the fashionable woman.
These stores offer ladieswear, footwear, accessories, fine jewellery, cosmetics and fragrances, as well as kidswear. Foschini is the second largest departmental retailer of cosmetics in South Africa, representing the major international brands including Clarins, Clinique, Revlon, Elizabeth Arden, Yardley and L'Oreal.
Foschini manufactures 70% of all its products locally.
Foschini believes in innovation and creativity and has dynamic in-house design teams, specialising in fashion design, store design and conceptual graphic design.
Foschini opened its first store in 1925 as a value offering for women's international brands.

The special branding:
This gloss was a limited edition item and was particularly released at the time the movie 'pink panther 2' was hitting the theatres. We all have memories from our childhood with our favourite cartoon being the Pink Panther. Even though the movie was nothing like it neither was it related to it but at that time all major brands released some sort of special collections pertaining to the release, and so Foschini also came up with this gloss adding it to be a collectables item.

My experience:
I also grabbed this gloss mainly because of it being tagged with Pink Panther, maybe it was just another marketing strategy of the company. The gloss was neither pink nor panthered! lol. It is a very basic clear gloss but definitely with a good formulation. It has a thick but not sticky consistency and comes in a wobbly tube. I usually use it as a top coat for my lipsticks or other dryer glosses as it gives a very smooth look hiding all my lip lines. The tube comes with a slanted but even opening enabling smooth application:

And this is how the gloss inside looks like:

I got this gloss from a Foschini store for $4 at that time and it always helps me whenever I can't decide what to wear on my lips. I can always even just wear it alone and I'm good to go :)

Hits:
Extra-long staying on power
Leaves moisturised lips

Reasonable price

Misses:

No choices for colours
The packaging is not concurrent with the name given

My Rating: 3.5/5

Review-The Body Shop Love Gloss

Heya all!!
Today I'm back with another review of one of the glosses I own. This is The Body Shop- Love Gloss.

About the Company:
The Body Shop International plc. is the original, natural and ethical beauty brand, with over 2,500 stores in over 60 markets worldwide. They practise strictly no animal testing and are famous for their nature friendly products.

What the brand claims:
With a unique heart-shaped applicator, you will fall in love with the gorgeous selection of eight shades of Love Gloss! The heart applicator not only looks pretty but it also effortlessly contours your lips with gloss, giving both definition and colour intensity.

Key Ingredients:
-Cocoa butter
-Coconut oil
-Sunflower Seed Oil

It of course has plenty of other natural ingredients as well that are openly listed on the product itself and can be found on their website also.

My Experience:

I got this in shade 15 which is Dusky Lavender. The gloss has a smooth consistency with a lot of shimmer and sparkles in it. It comes with pressed heart shaped wand that only picks up the desired amount of gloss from the container. It has a sort of sticky consistency probably due to presence of cocoa butter and other oil. I love this gloss for it colour and softening nature but the extra fruity smell makes me avoid it but for some it might be really refreshing. The packaging of this gloss is simple, it is hard-core clear plastic at bottom and the top has been given a mirror effect on the outer side of wand part. This gloss is available in 9 different shades and flavours each with its own texture and consistency. This is how the wand looks like:

And here is a blended swatch:

It retails at $10 for a 7.5 ml, and can be found online on body shop websites in the countries available or can definitely be found at all body shop outlets worldwide. Overall, this gloss isn't a must buy but if you are fond of natural products or you are a body shop brand lover then it worth a try!

Hits:
the colours are true
it has all natural ingredients
excellent moisturising power

Misses:
high price
not so long staying power
can be a bit sticky
the extra fruity smell can put you off

My Rating: 2.5/5

Review-CoverGirl WetSlicks AmazeMint Lipgloss

Okay lovelies!! Here comes my very first post. I am a person with extremely dry skin and pretty dry lips as well so one thing i cannot live without is a lip gloss. As mentioned in the title; today i will be reviewing CoverGirl WetSlicks AmazeMint gloss.

CoverGirl Wetslicks Amazemint is more than a lipgloss, it’s a smile treatment! Crest Peppermint Oil provides a minty breath sensation while the gloss itself gives a dazzling high-shine without all that “sticky”. Available in 13 different shades.

My experience:
I got this gloss in 2 shades:

Tickled Pink-610

Freedom of Peach-640

This soft creamy textured gloss has a vital ingredient of mint in it making it kinky when first applied. It makes my lips really cold and then settles down in a while. It has a yummy fruity smell which I love about it. The colours really pay off well. It does not have a very long staying-on power but stays for about 2-3 hours. it has vitamin-e making the lips very soft and smooth.

It has a medium sized wand but a very smooth one allowing equal application and it does not pick up excess gloss from the container. The container is hard plastic with a melamine top on the wand. Another thing to love about this gloss is that it fills and covers up all your lines on the lips very nicely hiding them all giving a smooth glossy finish. When swatched they appear as:
left(freedom of peach) right(tickled pink)
Overall, I love this gloss despite its flaws, it has been my all time favourite. I definitely recommend you all to try it out if you are fond of minty glosses. Cover Girl WetSlicks are also available in original glosses with about 9 shimmery shades without the mint. This gloss retails at $5 and can be bought on-line from cover girl's website that forwards you to a proper on-line shop of your choice or can be found in local drug stores as well carrying Cover Girl cosmetics.

Hits:
yummy taste
nice smell
colours are true

Misses:
container looks cheap
very thin texture

My rating: 3.5/5
